Happy Monday, Swamp Blog readers! I don't know about you guys, but I am very much enjoying this October weather so far. I thanked God more than a couple times last week for this cooler weather (and I pray that we can enjoy it before it gets too cold!)
If you've ever been to a singing devotional out at The Swamp, you'll know what I'm talking about when I say that it is one of the most special mornings during a week out at camp. Last week in particular, I was thinking about a camp-wide favorite song we sing sometimes called "Deeper". (Check out the lyrics at the end of the blog!) It's a really incredible song, and it sounds amazing. But beyond the beauty of the hearing the four parts sung in unison, the words of this song alone are so powerful. For a quiet time one morning, I just wrote down the lyrics and read them. And it just stirs something in the heart. It acknowledges God for who He is, and what his creation reveals to us. It is an open-hearted, longing desire and prayer to God for a deeper and stronger love, for a deeper and stronger presence with God.
Thinking about these lyrics and the emotion it stirs puts things in such a more meaningful and wholesome perspective. It inspires me to read my Bible deeper, and to love more, and to serve more wholeheartedly, which is really great, but ultimately what's most important is that it turns my heart to God. And a heart rooted in God's presence is a heart of joy, strength and life.
"You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand."
PSALM 16: 11

In other news, this weekend was the Middle School Retreat, where middle schoolers from all over the region come together for a weekend of fun at The Swamp! Their theme for the weekend was "SEEK".
Thanks for reading! Until next week,
I see the skies, the stars, the mountains, all Your works surrounding me. I feel Your power in everything, the heights above the oceans deep Help me Lord to love You deeper, lead to Your joy divine And teach me how to love with Your love, heart and soul and strength and mind. Hear my prayer, Lord, hear my prayer, Lord Bring me deeper, keep me closer. I will strive to love You deeper, I will strive to love You deeper.
